From Croatia to Ethiopia, see how you’ve helped people this month as a supporter of our work.
Thank You!
Throughout our 36-year history, we’ve faced some of the toughest challenges imaginable, but we never experienced a year quite like 2020. From fighting COVID-19 here at home to ending two Ebola outbreaks, your support made it all possible. Watch the video below to see how you helped us provide health and hope around the world last year.
Together, we’ve faced a year like no other. In a year that was harder than many could have imagined, you stood with us. And, together, we accomplished a lot. Thank you for making it possible! 💙 pic.twitter.com/4EFNEKsl5l

Continuing to Fight COVID-19 Around the World
In the 28 countries where we operate, we’re ensuring continuity of operations in our programs while responding to COVID-19 cases. We’re distributing personal protective equipment (PPE) and infection prevention and control (IPC) items to the healthcare facilities we support, while providing training and supplies to frontline healthcare workers.
Responding in the United States
The United States continues to lead the world in COVID-19 cases and deaths. In response, we’re supporting 41 hospitals across the country — including in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Puerto Rico and Texas — with a range of services and equipment.
With COVID cases surging in Southern California, we deployed additional resources to support facilities in the region. On January 6, we deployed a team to set up an emergency medical field unit at Barstow Community Hospital — a facility that was operating at nearly twice its capacity because of the virus.
Highlights of Our Global Response
In Azraq and Zaatari camps in Jordan, we’re supporting COVID-19 vaccinations. Together with UNHCR and local partners, we’re making sure that refugees have access to vaccine information and follow-up care, and we’re continuing to support mental health needs caused by the pandemic.
The Tigray region of Ethiopia is currently in the news because of a conflict that has affected an estimated 1.3 million people. Significant humanitarian needs existed in the region before the conflict, due to chronic food insecurity, worsened by locust invasions last year and COVID-19.
In response, we are supporting communities by providing hygiene and COVID-19 kits that will help prevent the spread of the virus, and making clean water more accessible. Our team is also working with local healthcare partners to identify health facilities that can support our mobile health and nutrition teams. Learn more.
Ensuring That the DRC Remains Free of Ebola
The work to make sure that the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) remains free of the deadly Ebola virus goes on.
At the Buburu Health Center, in the west of the country, our Rapid Response Team is training local health staff, to enhance their ability to respond if another outbreak occurs. The training covers community engagement, risk communication, managing suspect and confirmed cases, and the water, sanitation and hygiene measures needed to ensure that care is provided in a safe manner.
Responding to the Earthquake in Central Croatia
On December 29, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck central Croatia. Within hours of the earthquake, we deployed more than $50,000 worth of PPE to support Croatian health authorities involved in relief efforts, and our efforts to help affected communities continued throughout January. Find out more about our response.
Providing Women-Friendly Spaces in Pakistan
Our team in Pakistan is challenging cultural assumptions about mental health that can be harmful to women and girls. Watch the video below to learn how.
“We empower women and girls by involving them in different recreational activities.”
